Meet The Team

PETER KLAAS

CEO & FOUNDER

Education

I was born and raised in Denmark and grew up on my parents farm. After high school, I joined the army serving in the infantry and later the Military Police for a couple of years. I then joined the police, where I served for another ten years in Copenhagen. I especially enjoyed my time as a dog handler (K9), being a body guard and a SWAT team member.

After my service years, I finished a bachelor’s degree in management and organization. Then, based on my academic merits, I was offered a Ph.D. scholarship in managerial economics. My research interest is organization design, and in an economists perspective organizations are rational information processing structures that support the overall coordination of specialized decision making actors. My thesis focuses on the dynamics, i.e. how information structures change over time. To study that, I used mathematical modelling to build organizational designs which I then simulated in a computer to study their behavior over time, much like an engineer would build airplane models and simulate them in an air tunnel (they use computers now too).

A very theoretical world, fundamentally different from my prior years in service and later years in industry. And yet strangely related. I enjoyed the teaching and the research, publishing papers together with good colleagues and friends. And the tools I learned proved to be very handy in later professional life.

Professional

After my service, I worked in industry before, during and after my university years. I held senior management positions In a variety of different privately and publicly owned companies as well as management consulting. In 2008 I joined Vestas, the Denmark based global wind turbine company. I held different senior positions including an expat position in Shanghai and later Beijing, China, as the VP and GM of Vestas China supply chain organization.

Returning from China, I decided to leave corporate life and pursue an old dream of running my own company. As a result, I acquired Wood Treatment Technologies, WTT, in 2013. WTT is an engineering company which builds wood treatment and modification systems to the lumber industry. I am an entrepreneur at heart and love to build teams and businesses around shared and strong long term visions, and owning WTT has given me the opportunity to be that entrepreneur.

Based on second generation advanced modification technology which I was able to develop in the years after joining WTT, I founded the joint venture Klaaswood together with my American partner in 2023. I have lived in Denver since 2024. Founding Klaaswood together with my American colleagues and friends is the ultimate entrepreneurial experience in the homeland of entrepreneurs, and I feel privileged to have this opportunity.

Fun facts

As a police officer I never thought much of lawyers and politicians, until my eldest son started studying political science. Now I have a “Foreign Affairs” subscription and enjoy discussing international relationships with him, especially the economic aspects of course since I have the upper hand there. Learning is a social process and you never know who will teach you an important lesson.

ALAINA TROWBRIDGE

DIRECTOR OF ENTERPRISE BUSINESS

Professional

While at University, I ran an exterior painting business for 4 years which allowed me a hands-on approach to building and managing a business, and all the aspects that come along with this. In my final summer, my team and I closed about $700,000 in sales. This allowed me at a young age to see the potential of hard work and commitment, which has proven true throughout my career. Thinking the corporate approach was necessary, I took a role in IT sales- closing my first sale in 4 weeks and headed towards Presidents Club in my first year. Though, I learned quickly IT was not my forever industry and I chose to find my way back to the exteriors world. It seems the “world of wood” always felt more like home.  I spent 4 years with Wheelhouse 20/20 working with LP Building Solutions as their Outdoor Solutions Shed Representative. I pioneered this role into a fantastic opportunity for the segment, and it allowed me to venture into architectural/high density housing sales with LP Building Solutions. I moved to Colorado with LP, and from there took a role as the West Regional Business Development Manager focused on national level clients. I then took the role of Director of Enterprise Business with KLAASWOOD, which I’m thrilled to utilize all my skills to build the top Thermally Modified Wood brand and manufacturer in the USA.

Education

I studied at the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities, CFANS (College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Sciences). I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioproducts Marketing & Management. I spent time with an emphasis on renewable energy; specifically focused classes surrounding natural energy resources like wood, fungi, biodiesel, and wind. I learned how to approach utilizing these resources through a LCA (life cycle assessment) approach to choose sustainable choices. Along with this background, I had a focus in marketing & management classes, with a personal interest in entrepreneurship.

Fun Facts

I’ve gone snowboarding at 18 different mountains (& counting!). I have a golden doodle named Luna and a kitty cat named Goose. I am very competitive, growing up with two older brothers, and I am surprisingly decent at random sports like pool, darts & bowling.
